Last week I had the biggest online cash so far. Nothing extreme, but there were some things that made it special. Especially what happened afterwards ... On the 23rd of November, I played a $2 tournament with 433 runners and placed 2nd for $133. Not a bad return on the $2 investment. On the 24th I was playing on Pokerstars in a huge field, there were 2354 players and I busted out in 42nd place. I got the money in as a 75% favorite with 2 cards to come in a huge pot which would have given me a 100 big blind stack and a huge chance at the final table ... :( $18 for a $3 investment is not bad, but it really was disappointing to go out so close to the final table after so many hours of play (I think this was after 5 or 6 hours of playing). 2 days later, on the 26th, I gave the $3 tournament on Pokerstars another try, and this time there were 2053 runners and I placed 5th. I got the money in as a slight favorite with A5o against KQo, but by that time I was down to 12bb with the other players having around 25 to 30bb. Obviously if I win that pot I'm back in the game. Anyway, I did cash for $296 - getting almost 100 times my investment of $3. Obviously I was running like GOD to get this deep in 3 MTTs in a row, but I also played my A game. At this point I was feeling like I was god's gift to poker (obviously) and was ready to start grinding the MTTs that weekend like mad. Of course this is when I hit a downswing ... I played a bunch of $3 turbos on Full Tilt and a series of $4 / 180 mans on Stars, only to get soulcrushed each and every time. Lost a few 50/50 flips to bust out, but mostly I was getting the money in as a huge favorite and getting sucked out on. AK lost to 53, 66 lost to 68, JJ lost to QJ, and a few times I got my aces cracked by JT and similar hands a few times, and finally I had my 88 lose to 55 by a 1 outer on the river (I had the other 5 blocked by my flushdraw !!). Just a 95% favorite, no big deal :) After this bad run, I went on full blown monkey tilt ... I was swearing at my PC, slamming my mouse on the table and feeling very, very depressed. A friend called me to come play in a live game in the pub and I decided to give up my sunday online grind and head over to the pub. I did really well there and felt like my luck had finally turned. My AK/AQ hands hit the flop every time, I had big pairs that didn't get cracked, I made a set and won a decent pot, I bluffed a few times and they all folded ... Great .. Then I lost a pot where I had to fold when they raised my bluff and I had 15bb left. I open shoved with QQ and got insta-reshoved on with 77 by a loose player - the door card was the soul crushing 7 of course and I got sent home. I tried another 9 man SNG and was doing well until I got the money in with top pair and a gut shot, only to have my opponent show me the nuts (he already had the straight and I was drawing to 3 outs for a split.... uhm ... misplayed obv :) So first I got my hopes up that it was all going to be great from now on, and then I got my soul crushed like never before. I don't think I have ever felt this depressed about poker and am taking a week break now from the game. Hope to be refreshed and confident again by next weekend.
