Finally, time for some gaming news again ! The all-time classic 3d shooter 'Duke Nukem' was released on XBLA just yesterday. I immediatelly purchased it (without even doing the trial first). I had to make up for the fact that I was one of the first people to own an illegal copy back in the days. So I shelled out the 800 ms points and fired up the game. The graphics have not had any real improvement, although there is some extra blurring which makes it look at least half decent on your TV set. Controlling Duke is now done with the controller which takes some getting used to for keyboard freaks like me. But before I knew it I was running around the levels so fast, you would wonder where I got the boots of speed from, hahaha. I thought I knew all the secrets in level 1, but still managed to miss one. So they've either added a new one, or I have forgotten about one somewhere. I did not have time to test online play yet, because I was certain to get stuck in it for a couple of hours at the least if i tried. At least I hope the net code is better then Doom on XBLA (worst LAG ever). There are some minor new features added, like you can record time demos and make a run for the exit. If you are the worlds fastest, your movie will be published to the XBLA network for others to see. This same recording mechanism is used for the save / load feature and when you die you are able to 'rewind' and play from there. I think the game is well worth the 800 points, but only for people who originally liked the classic. Not something for today's youth ... they can't handle this high octane run and gun style game :) For all Duke 3d fans, here is a downloadable ringtone of the Duke3d theme song !!
