Installing and configuring the 'JoomlaStats' component PDF E-mail
Saturday, 07 June 2008

The JoomlaStats component is an invaluable resource to the Joomla webmaster. It will provide you with very detailed statistics about your site's visitors. Where do they come from, how did they find your site, how often do they come back .. etc etc. These details are important to know if you want to further optimize your site for the search engines.

First download and install the 'JoomlaStats' component :

Download JoomlaStats component

Download JoomlaStats mambot

Guide to installing new Joomla components

Now all you need to do is activate the collection of statistics by publishing the 'Jstats activate mambot'.

After you have done this, visit your site with your browser and check in JoomlaStats admin panel to see if the pageview is registered.

After it has been collecting information for a couple of days, you should go back and check your statistics. Things to keep a special eye on :

Referrers : A visitor found your site on another site with a link to you. This can sometimes bring you to forum posts about your articles. It also tells you which of your link partners are actually bringing you any visitors.

Searches : A visitor found your site through a search engine. You can see exactly which term they searched on to find your site. This information is crucial in any SEO campaign to measure the effect of your link building.

Troubleshooting :

My pageviews are not registering ?

Check that you have installed and published the mambot

Go to mambots / site mambots

Check the column 'published' next to the jstats activate mambot. If it's not set to a green tick, click to publish it.
